Walks, pubs and days out, most of them close enough to stroll to.
These are the places we send our guests, and the ones we go to ourselves. Rob has written up each walk with a map, so pick up a copy from the hall table before you set off.

Boots on, out of the gate.

4 miles, about 2 hours
Kelder Beck and the old mill
Down Church Lane, over the stile and along the beck to the mill ruins. Mostly flat, muddy after rain. Leads on near the sheep.

Gill Head waterfall
Up through Kelder Wood to the falls and back along the top. One steep climb, then the best picnic spot in the dale.

1.5 miles by car
8 miles, about 4 hours
Raven Edge
The big one: heather moor, wide views and a trig point at the top. Take a map and a flask, as there's no café up there.

The Plough
Our local, at the top of Church Lane. Good ale, a fire in winter and pies on Thursdays. Book a table at weekends.

The Black Swan, Hawden
Dogs welcome in the bar, Sunday roasts and a quiz on Tuesdays. A lovely walk there across the fields in summer.

The Shepherd's Rest, Ellerby
A big garden looking over the dale, a good wine list and very good chips. Food served until 9pm.

Hawden Priory
The ruins of a 12th-century priory in a field by the river. Free to wander round and quiet on weekday mornings.

Dale Valley Railway
Steam trains between Ashby Moor and Coldwell at weekends from Easter to October. Dogs ride free.

Kelderby Farm Shop
Our bacon, sausages and eggs come from here. The café does a good lunch and is open until 4pm, closed Mondays.
Muddy boots? There’s a drying room.
Boot racks, a hose for the dog and a radiator for wet coats, just inside the back door.
